Every accessory is chosen to help you dial in better shots, improve consistency, and enjoy the process more.

What's in this collection?

Browse our full range of espresso accessories including: coffee tampers (flat, calibrated and self-levelling), coffee distributors, puck screens and shower screens, dosing rings and dosing cups, milk frothing jugs, coffee knock boxes, precision scales and more. Compatible with Breville, De'Longhi, Gaggia, and most home espresso machines.

Why upgrade your coffee accessories?

Even a great espresso machine can't compensate for inconsistent technique. The right accessories — a well-fitted tamper, a quality puck screen, or a precise scale — make an immediate, noticeable difference to your espresso. They help you tamp level, distribute evenly, reduce channelling, and repeat your best shots every time.

What coffee accessories do I need as a home barista? +

The core accessories most home baristas benefit from are: a coffee tamper that fits your basket (54mm for Breville, 58mm for most others), a puck screen to improve extraction evenness, a dosing ring or cup for mess-free loading, and precision scales. From there, a bottomless portafilter and a milk frothing jug round out a solid home setup.

Are Coffee Nerd accessories compatible with my machine? +

Most of our accessories are designed for standard basket sizes — 54mm for Breville Barista Express and Pro, and 58mm for De'Longhi, Gaggia, Breville Dual Boiler/Oracle, and most commercial-style machines. Each product listing includes a full compatibility guide. If you're unsure, feel free to reach out — we're happy to help you find the right fit.

Do you offer free shipping on coffee accessories in Australia? +

Yes — we offer free standard shipping on all Australian orders over $50. Most accessories ship from our NSW warehouse and arrive within 2–5 business days. Express options are also available at checkout.

Frequently Asked Questions

What size tamper do I need for my Breville machine?
Breville machines (Barista Express, Barista Pro, Bambino Plus) use a 54mm filter basket, so you need a 54mm tamper. The Breville Oracle uses a 58mm basket. Using the correct size is important — a tamper that's too small leaves a gap around the edge of the puck, allowing water to channel around it rather than through it, resulting in uneven, bitter espresso.
How much pressure should I use when tamping espresso?
The old rule of '30 pounds of pressure' has largely been replaced by a simpler guideline: tamp firmly and consistently until the grounds stop compressing, then give a slight twist to polish the surface. Consistency matters far more than a specific number. A calibrated tamper (which clicks at a set pressure) is an excellent tool for building consistent technique, especially for newer home baristas.
What is a calibrated tamper and is it worth it?
A calibrated tamper has a spring mechanism that 'clicks' at a pre-set pressure (usually 10-15kg), ensuring you tamp to the same pressure every time. For home baristas who are still dialling in their technique, a calibrated tamper removes one variable from the espresso equation. Once you've developed consistent technique, a standard tamper works just as well.
What is the difference between a flat and a convex tamper base?
A flat tamper base distributes pressure evenly across the entire puck surface — this is the most common style and what most baristas use. A convex base applies slightly more pressure in the centre than at the edges. We recommend flat base tampers for most home baristas as they are more forgiving and easier to use consistently.
Should I use a tamper and a distributor together?
Yes — using a coffee distributor (also called a leveller) before tamping is considered best practice. The distributor breaks up clumps and evenly levels the grounds in the basket before you tamp, which leads to a more even, consistent extraction. Using both tools is one of the most effective ways to eliminate channelling and improve shot quality. We offer tamper and distributor bundles for a complete puck prep kit.
